WODS Injury Prevention/Concussion Awareness

WODS and GRSM are teaming up to host a injury prevention and concussion awareness clinic. Did you know that ACL injuries account for more than 30% of all sports related surgeries? Did you know females are at a 3-9 times higher risk of ACL injuries than males involved in the same sport? Did you know over 75% of ACL injuries are non-contact due to landing, jumping, cutting or planting the foot?

Prevention is key! ACL injury prevention programs have been shown to decrease ACL injury rates by 46-90%. Therapists from Grand River Sports Medicine in Ontario and Sherwood Park Sports Physiotherapy in Alberta have developed KNEEFIT to help athletes retrain the neuromuscular system and reduce the strain on all knee ligaments.

Keeping athletes fully engaged in sport is our main focus and knee injuries are a leading cause of ending seasons and overall participation in sport. The ACL is responsible for 80% of your knee joint stability.

What is KNEEFIT?
• 18-minute, 4-part exercise program to help reduce the incidence of ACL knee injuries.
• This program is based on the latest evidence informed practice
• The program focuses on correcting situations that put the knee(ACL) at highest risk.
• Improvements in power, speed and agility are also benefits of the program.

Coaches and athletes of all levels can incorporate this program into regular training sessions. There will be a 1 hour in class portion followed by a 1 hour on field active learning component.
